Janet's Seahorses
Seahorses have always caught my eye.
I like the elegance of them. Here are some that I have designed and stitched:

Contemporary Filet Darn Seahorse with a chunky border
You can see this seahorse in step by step detail here:
http://www.jmddesigns.co.nz/seahorse.htm

This bag above is 41 x 49cm (16 x 19 inches). The seahorse was needle turned appliqued onto the fabric and then Stem stitched around the edge of the shapes. Inside the shapes, top stitching of circles and crosses were stitched. The wavy spine was Stem stitched. Then pieced blocks were added on two sides and strips the other two sides. Then padding was added behind the whole piece and seaweed etc was hand quilted. I used Pearl 8 thread to quilt with because the stitching will get worn easily being used as a bag.  Beads and miniature sequins were sewn down the spins and between body sections. Then the bag itself was constructed.

Neptune's Steed
Traditionally Blackwork is stitched on white fabric with black threads. I have given a contemporary feel with sea green fabric and multi colour threads. Beads also make the filling designs stand out. 10 different filling stitches are used. Design size is approximately on #14 Aida: 24 x 13 cm (9 1/2  x 5 inches)

Sirsea
The sections on the body are each individually padded. He is 19 x 10cm (7 x 4 inches). Stitched with Rayon threads, miniature sequins, beads and metallic threads. Stitched onto washed patchwork fabric.

Beaded Seahorse

It measures 11 x 19cm (4 1/2 x 7 inches). I used beads and a variety of metallic threads couched and stitched. About 6 difference types of beads. Stitched on purple washed patchwork fabric. Once it is stretched properly when framed the outside border will sit straight.

Aqua Seahorse
Split stitched onto a washed quilting fabric. Rayon and metallic threads and beads were used. It measures 11 x 19cm (4 1/2 x 7 inches).

Underwater Creatures
The embroidery style is Pulled Thread that this is stitched in. Variegated stranded cottons were used for the outlines of the creature.
It measures 36 x 12cm (14 x 5 inches).

Seahorse Serenity
This cute Assisi design incorporates Anchor variegated threads and single coloured stranded cotton threads. The outline of the Seahorse itself is highlighted with silver metallic threads. Instructions and chart included.
