 Drainage Bottle Tote Bags
I would like to bring up awareness of basic tote bags with long shoulder straps for those in hospital that have had a mastectomy. The bags are used to carry around drainage bottles after surgery. (Big enough to hold 2x 1lt bottles, think New Zealand milk bottles)

Some mastectomies are not just for cancer patients. Relying on a Cancer Support group that may have them; may not make it to some patients. I had a male relative who had a full double mastectomy in 2019 that was not cancer related and no tote was available.

Twice in 2019 in the Auckland area I know two hospitals that have not had them to give to patients and family have had to go buy something before patients went home. The last thing families’ needs to do at a time like this. Otherwise it means carrying the bags outside in public in a plastic bag.

So how about we talk about this need in our quilting/sewing groups and reach out to supply hospitals. Remembering that patients can be male or female, when choosing fabrics. Bags can be donated to a surgical hospital near you.
