Plastic Bag Holder
Tutorial
Written and Designed by Janet M. Davies
In these days of recycling I make sure my plastic bags get used again. This holder keeps them nice and tidy. Before putting them in the holder I take hold of the handle end of the plastic bag and the bottom of it. Pull the bag straight and tie a loose knot in the bag. Then put it in the fabric holder.

I used a Fat Quarter of Quilting fabric. Any fabric can be used from calico to curtain fabric. My fabric was 53cm (21 inches) square.

1. Fold you fabric in 1/2 and sew down the side.

2. Fold each end of the fabric tube over twice making a 2.5 cm (1 inch) casing. Press.

3. Sew the casing down leaving a 2.5cm (1 inch) gap to thread elastic through. Sew some ric-rack or ribbon into the sewing line to use as a hanger.

4. Thread elastic through the casing tight enough you can get you hand inside the opening easily.

5. Stuff with plastic bags and hang up. To get bags out just pull them from the bottom opening. Put new bags through the top opening. Before putting them in the holder I take hold of the handle end of the plastic bag and the bottom of it. Pull the bag straight and tie a loose knot in the bag. Then put it in the fabric holder.

The bird on the fabric I used is the New Zealand Pukeko.

The instructions in JMD Designs retail pattern packs are a lot more
detailed than what is given here in this tutorial above.
