Needle Felted Paper Mache Bowl
Written and Designed by Janet M. Davies

For this bowl I hand needle felted carded wool. Then laid of a layer of the felted wool over the inside of a small paper mache bowl I had made. I used a small amount of glue to hold the felt to the paper mache so it would not slip.

Then I hand stitched through mache and wool; Chain stitch and put beads between each chain. Then I stitched beads on randomly. Then I curled pieces of copper wire and stitched them in place.

Then placed a layer of the wool felt over the outside of the bowl. Rolled the two edges of wool felt together and needle felted them together. Then sewed wire and beads on outside.

Microwave Paper Mache

1. Use newspaper and wallpaper paste to mache with.
2. Place a small glass bowl upside down and place cling-film plastic over bowl.
3. Place about 4 layers of paper mache over the bowl and plastic.
4. Microwave on medium for 30 seconds at a time until the paper and paste is dried. Allow to cool for 30 seconds on bench between 30 second blasts in the microwave.
5. Allow to cool down and decorate to your hearts content.
NOTE:

1. Careful as paper can burn if left to long or it gets to hot.
2. Remember the paste will have air bubbles in it; so it is important to cool between blasts in the microwave, so the bubbles do not expand and burst.

The instructions in JMD Designs retail pattern packs are a lot more
detailed than what is given here in this tutorial above.
