This is a small Christmas wall hanging featuring a hand stitched
cottage.

1. Trace the cottage design sized to 8cm (3
inches) square onto a plan fabric16cm (6 inches) square.
2. Stitch the red lines of the cottage with
Backstitch and the gold lines with Stem stitch. Use 2 strands of red 6
stranded cotton or 1 strand of Pearl 8. Use 2 strands of gold stranded
thread.
3. 1cm (1/4 inch) around the outer edge of
the cottage pin a row of ric-rack and tack in place.
4. Sew gold beads onto the
ric-rack as shown in photo and then remove tacking thread.
5.Cut strips of Christmas patterned fabric
4cm 1 1/2 inches wide and sew around the outside of the plain fabric.
6.Cut a piece of backing fabric the total
size of your front panel.
7. The backing fabric and the front panel
are then sewn right sides together leaving open a 5 cm (2 inch) area at the bottom to turn right sides of fabric outwards.
8. Turn the fabric the right sides
outwards.
9.Cut a firm piece of wadding (needle
punch) the same size as the finished fabric piece and insert between
fabric layers. The wadding should be laid flat inside the whole fabric panel.
10. Sew closed the opening in the lower seam.
11. Sew red buttons around the edge of the fabric boarder
using green thread.
12. Stitch a length of white ric-rac each end of the upper back of the
hanging.
13. Sew red hanging buttons into the seam
line from the bottom of the whole hanging using green cotton.

Save the line drawing to your computer and then put into a Word
document and resize to 8cm (3 inches) square. The dashed lines are for
the gold thread stitching.

Along the lower edge of the panel bring thread out of seam line and
thread a button onto the thread, Then bring thread back up and attach
back into the seam line.

If you don't want to remove your regular stitching from the
walls; then thread a long strand of nylon thread to your
Christmas hanging to make a large loop. Then place the nylon
thread around your upper picture and the Christmas hanging sits
in it's own wall space without having to put another hole in the
wall to hang it. |
