This is a very clever design where the centre is made totally of squares but gives the visual effect of octagons (8 sided shape). There is no having to pivot corners while sewing to get the octagon look. If you can sew squares together then you can easily make this quilt to delight yourself and others. A great quilt for using all those scraps up with.
The diamond (turned squares appliqued or machine sewn) shapes between the octagons have creatures easily needleworked onto them. Butterflies, ladybugs, a dragonfly, caterpillar, worm and a bee. Roses have been hand stitched also.
